How do I find products?

Portico offers a number of tools for browsing and searching the product library. A great starting point is the product library homepage, which can be accessed via the "Products" link in the top navigation. From here, you can use one or more search fields or filters to find products that meet your needs, including:

  • Product name - This includes a search for product name and product number (if provided), and displays likely results as you type. You can select a product from the suggestions that appear to go straight to that product profile, or click the search button to see all results matching the search term.
  • Manufacturer - As with the product name, suggestions for matching manufacturer names in the product library will appear as you type.
  • Classification - Classifications here are based on CSI MasterFormat. You can begin to type a code (e.g. "09 60 00") or classification name (e.g. "Flooring") for suggested classifications. Search results include all products with classifications nested under the MasterFormat hierarchy; for example, a search for 09 60 00 Flooring will include results for 09 68 00 Carpet. A complete list of MasterFormat numbers and titles is available for download from the CSI website.
  • Region - This filters by the region(s) in which the product is available according to the manufacturer. Options are APAC (Asia Pacific), EMEA (Europe, Middle East and Africa), NORTHAM (North America; Mexico offices are not part of this region, but this office often uses products sold in this region), and LATAM (All regions south of USA; includes Mexico, the Carribean, Central America and South America; these regions speak either Spanish or Portuguese).
  • Standard / Version - For products with data submitted, this filters search results by the standard used to meet scoring criteria. Most products meet criteria via Health Product Declaration format reporting (HPD), though a minority of products are Cradle2Cradle Certified (C2C) or have full GreenScreen assessments for all product contents.
  • Minimum Disclosure Threshold - For products with data submitted, this filters search results by the level of disclosure reported (either 1,000 ppm or 100ppm, as other thresholds do not meet the minimum criteria for Portico scoring).
  • Minimum Transparency - This filter is based on the transparency score piece of the Portico scoring criteria, and designates whether the product data is self-reported or verified, and whether the full product data is disclosed only to a third party, disclosed through Portico but not to the broader public, or shared publicly as via a public repository or website.
  • Minimum Total Points - This filter is based on the 0-16 point scoring that combines disclosure threshold, associated hazard, and transparency. Product status is based on a minimum of 4 points for a status of "Meets Criteria," with greater than 10 points earning a status of "Exceeds Criteria," however some projects may choose an alternative minimum point level for their project needs.
  • Status - This filter limits search results to those products that have a particular status. Product statuses follow a progression, from Record Created, to Information Request Sent (if an Information Request has been sent by any project in Portico), to Data Entry Started, to Data Submitted. Once data is submitted by a manufacturer, it is automatically scored as Below Criteria (0-3 points), Meets Criteria (4-10 points), or Exceeds Criteria (11-16 points). Products that have been reported as having data discrepancies leading to incorrect scoring may be flagged instead as "Quality Assurance" pending correction and resubmission by the manufacturer. Products that are no longer available may have a status of "Archived."
  • Compliance - For products with data submitted, this filter checks for products that meet one or more selected building standards, including:
    • Living Building Challenge Red-List Free - Products with all substances disclosed to 100ppm with no unknown content and no substances listed on the Living Building Challenge Red List; see "How Is LBC Compliance Determined?"
    • Contributes to LEED v4 MRc4 Option 1 - Products meeting Option 1 (Material Ingredient Reporting) of the Building Product Disclosure and Optimization credit; see "How Is LEED Compliance Determined?"
    • Contributes to LEED v4 MRc4 Option 2 (100%) - Products meeting Option 2 (Material Ingredient Optimization) of the Building Product Disclosure and Optimization credit with materials weighed at 100% of cost; see "How Is LEED Compliance Determined?"
    • Contributes to LEED v4 MRc4 Option 2 (150%) - Products meeting Option 2 (Material Ingredient Optimization) of the Building Product Disclosure and Optimization credit with materials weighed at 150% of cost; see "How Is LEED Compliance Determined?"
    • EU REACH Compliant - Products with all substances disclosed to 100ppm with no unknown content and no substances listed on REACH lists

In addition to searching for products via the product library homepage, Portico also allows for a quick product term search from the project team dashboard (which includes product name, product number, and manufacturer name), as well as finding products by searching for the manufacturer from the "Manufacturers" link in the top navigation to see a full list of their products in the context of their company profile.
